Calgary, AB – Calgary Northside Soccer Club (“CNS”) and FC Metro Soccer Club (“FC Metro”) announce a soccer collaboration to provide quality service delivery to the soccer community in the Northwest of Calgary. CNS is a leading Club in the Northwest of Calgary including competing at provincial championships and also representing Alberta at the National Level. FC Metro has emerged as a strong grassroots club focused delivering quality skill development and strong coach education to communities in the Northwest. The collaboration will have a clear goal to provide greater resources and an improved overall experience for players.

CNS will now be the Official Community Provider for the communities of Kincora, Sherwood, Sage Hill, Nolan Hill, Citadel and Hamptons and provide soccer from U4 to U19. This large grassroots base will allow for like minded and like skilled players to be playing together on a wider range of teams within the combined larger entity.

CNS is very pleased to have this collaboration that provides a larger player pool so kids can play at the right level, as well as allowing the more competitive player to achieve their potential.  CNS will always remain focused on a fun based, developmental grassroots soccer program in the community and serving the community needs.”

CNS will also be partnered with and supported by Calgary Foothills Soccer Club (“Foothills”) as their preferred partner for the eventual Alberta Youth League, as well as elite development pathways offered by Foothills.

Foothills has some unique resources in the City of Calgary that CNS will be supported by and have access, such as:

  • The only full-size Fieldhouse with an international size, soccer specific field that is 84,000 square feet and also has FIFA Grade A Fieldturf.
  • The only USL2 (formerly the PDL) team in Calgary and Alberta. The USL 2 league is a league of over 70 teams in Canada and the United States and Foothills is the reigning National Champions.
  • A United Women’s Soccer league team (“UWS”) which is currently the Conference Champion. The UWS is Division 2 in the United States Soccer Federation under the NWSL.

CNS will continue to run programs U4 to U19 in the community.  As a player gets older, U17 Tier 1 players will have additional developmental pathways open to them to achieve their full potential.  Players can opt to play within CNS or be invited to the USL2 or UWS developmental program.

Fellow CNS Parents,

Save the Date request for a fun filled night in support of the U17 CNS Fiore as they work towards their trip to the Donosti Cup in Spain next summer.

The event will take place on Saturday November 10th, 2018, (6PM to 11PM) at the Edgemont Community Centre, and promises to be first-class.  Dinner will be fully catered by Distinctive Catering and the evening festivities will include both entertainment from acclaimed local comedian Brian Stollery, and a Casino night (with play money), as well as a silent auction.  The Fiore team will be kept busy dealing blackjack and busing tables.

Thanks

The Boys U17 Hurricanes made it to Fredericton for Nationals despite the snowstorm. They missed their connection in Toronto and eventually made it going through Ottawa and St. John.

Oct 8th Update:
The Hurricanes ended up with a 1-1-2 record at Nationals.  They will play the Charlottetown Royals FC on Monday, October 9 at 10:15 am ADT or 7:15 am Calgary time.  We are proud of the tireless and relentless effort that got them there and wish them the best for tomorrow's game.

We wish them the best and know they are proud to represent Calgary Northside and Alberta.

CNS would like to welcome Tyrone Irons as the new President of Calgary Northside Soccer. Tyrone was originally from England and has been actively involved in the Calgary soccer community for over 25 years. He has extensive coaching experience at all age groups and levels; giving him a wealth of knowledge for the game.

CNS would like to thank Past President Jason Yeast for all his hard work and dedication over the years. Jason has been involved at the executive level of the club for five years. And he has been active with the club in a variety of volunteer roles for even longer. Jason would like to thank his family and the many volunteers who helped along the way with hard-work, support, and guidance -  and especially Persica Jear.

CNS is very proud of Derek Brust who is playing in this year’s Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg. Derek is playing forward for Team Alberta. And it has been fun watching Derek on TSN and influence his team’s success – assisting the game winning goal against Manitoba to get them all the way to the gold medal match.

Derek plays for the CNS Hurricanes Boys U17 Tier One team, coached by James Armstrong, and has been doing so since u10. Congratulations Derek, we are very proud of you.

The Canada Games are this country’s largest multi-sport event for young athletes and in 2017 will celebrate their 50th anniversary and acknowledge Canada’s 150th birthday.
Derek will rejoin the CNS Hurricanes following this tournament to compete in Alberta's Bu17 Tier One Provincials competition. Good luck to Derek and the CNS Hurricanes.

Congratulations to Eldon Kearl, who won the Gift of Flight with Westjet!

HUGE thanks to Steve Oldridge for the incredible donation of his employee privilege to our team.  Our raffle raised approximately $9,600 in profit for our team and this would not have been possible without Steve's donation.  We will be presenting Steve with a thank you gift in Minnesota, as he will be there with his daughter's team.

Thanks again to all our players and their families for selling tickets and promoting our team so politely at the retail outlets. We had several compliments on the girls' manners and kindness.  One elderly lady was taken aback when the girls offered to help carry her groceries. Great work CNS Fiore!

To celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, one of our founding communities, Varsity, is sponsoring a Soccer Jersey Amnesty to benefit the charity, SOCCER WITHOUT BOUNDARIES. Gently used, washed soccer jerseys, shinpads and cleats can be dropped off at the VCA office (4303 Varsity Drive NW, Mon-Fri from 9 am-5 pm) before JUNE 23. Donations are distributed to immigrant and low income families in Calgary.

For more information, contact Peri-Lynn Blair, VCA Program Coordinator, at  vcapros@telus.net. Thank you for your support.
